Overview

Started in 2003, the Corbis Image Donation Program allows non-profit organizations to license Bettmann Collection images free of charge (up to 20 per year per organization) to tell their stories and promote their causes. Images may be used for brochures, invitations, exhibits, documentary films, and many other projects.

As of 2007, more than $8 million in licensing fees have been donated since the program's inception, making it Corbis' largest and most well-known philanthropic initiative.

Non-profit organizations-or advertising, design, or PR agencies doing pro-bono projects-may submit requests for their projects. If organizations or agencies have an existing relationship with a Corbis sales representative, they may contact their sales representative directly to discuss their project and image needs.

Donation Guidelines

Organizations must have current charitable status. Corbis does not fund private foundations, individuals, political organizations, hospitals, schools, religious organizations, or organizations that have unlawful discriminatory practices. Donations will not typically be provided to political or controversial causes. Corbis reserves the right to decide when to make a donation or not.

Image Selection

Images from the Bettmann Archive, available through the Corbis website, are eligible to be donated. Fine art under copyright will not be donated, unless we have assurances that the organization has obtained the necessary permissions from the copyright owner of the art.

Technical

Images will be provided standard resolutions only. Corbis will not provide "rescans" of images to fit project needs.

Image Use

Organizations are limited to a maximum of 20 donated images per year. Except for specified usage, images may not be reproduced, displayed, distributed, or incorporated into other works. If the image is requested for a non-editorial use (advertising or commercial), images that may require third-party permissions will not be donated, unless we have assurances from the organization that they have obtained the necessary permissions.

Acknowledgement

Use of all donated images must be accompanied with the "Donated by Corbis-Bettmann" logo. Image use grants implicit permission to Corbis to reproduce and promote any and all usage examples in communications/promotions about the program.
